It′s time too take laughter seriously - Dr Madan Kataria

What is the laugh-a-thon?

This first national laugh-a-thon is a sponsored laughter workout led by Joe Hoare and members of the Laughter Network (www.laughternetwork.co.uk) to raise money for the British Heart Foundation (www.bhf.org.uk) - you are laughing for charity and your own health & enjoyment.

The laugh-a-thon is an activity. It is something you do. It is an atmosphere you help create and take part in. It is an interactive process, not passive entertainment.

  • You will be shown tips to lighten up your moods, thoughts & feelings.
  • You will be introduced to Positive Psychology and Learned Optimism techniques, to help build the life you really want.
  • You will be able to develop your own stress-busting sustained chuckle.

'Life is a mirror: if you frown at it, it frowns back; if you smile, it returns the greeting.' - Thackery

This is achieved through light-hearted exercises, interactivity and laughter yoga practices, with no jokes, no quips, no witticisms, no audience humiliation.

All laughter is allowed - chuckling, chortling, tittering, guffawing, belly laughing, silently, out loud - however you laugh, it's all good, it's the laugh that counts.

The sponsorship is to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation's campaign for 'healthy hearts'. Coronary Heart Disease is an increasing problem, and regular cardiovascular activity is a must for everyone who wants to lead their fullest healthy life (www.bhf.org.uk).

'Laugh when you can - it is cheap medicine' - Byron.

Laughter itself is a healthy, vigorous and enjoyable cardiovascular activity! It provides dynamic exercise for the heart, lungs and whole circulatory system, and many other physical, emotional & psychological benefits. There is good information on this website and www.laughternetwork.co.uk.
